ABOUT

Born in Kuwait to a Mumbaikar father and Hyderabadi mother, Umberina’s affinity for storytelling stems from when she starred in a play at age five. Upon discovering that acting was her anchor, she enrolled in Trinity College London's drama course, becoming one of the first students in the Middle East to achieve great success in the course.

In 2021, Umberina moved to New York City to study at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA). The following year, she became a member of AADA’s esteemed Company, led by director and dialect coach, Barbara Rubin. Her previous credits include Hippolyta/Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Irina Arkadina in Chekov’s The Seagull. Her recent Off-Broadway credit was Kaycee in Annie Brown’s “Remembering Morgan” which was featured at the Downtown Urban Arts Festival, and was selected to win The Audience Award at the festival.

Umberina's most recent accomplishment was the launch of her theatre company, Chaand Theatre, in 2024. Under this banner, she made her highly acclaimed NYC directorial debut with an original show, "Beneath the Banyan Tree: A Collection of South Asian Stories."

Umberina takes pride in her Islamic faith and South Asian heritage and hopes to inspire and present opportunities to those who have none through the storytelling medium.

I have no doubt that Umberina will be making an even bigger splash in the New York and national theatre scene.

Umberina not only impressed me by her discipline and professional attitude, but she demonstrated her application and passionate commitment through her approach to rehearsals and creation of character.
